Got rear ended today, was driving in traffic when we came to a quick stop. I got stopped in time, Tahoe behind didn’t. At least they only clipped the corner and it was pretty slow speed, probably 5 mph. It’s not bad but I just got my car back from the last accident last month. The driver was super nice and apologetic, hopefully insurance will be much easier.

Everytime I leave Mexico to an actual civilized country I ask myself “How the fuck do people crash here
”
My question remains unanswered.

a special mix of inattentiveness and ignorance

Man, I’m sorry about this streak of luck, but the TSX took getting hit by a Tahoe like a champ! Looks like it has less damage!

Tahoe just has bad angle, just minor scuff/scrapes, not dent. The falling light is typical GM quality. But it took it better than I would’ve guessed. It also defended itself against the Escape pretty well, it’s tough little car

Aw crap. I hope this gets fixed quickly and without much hassle.

I always felt like Mexico had a uniquely human quality to the traffic. It was unstructured, but cooperative. People did weird stuff to increase throughput, but it didn’t seem to result in accidents.
People here become inattentive drivers due to most people doing things consistently. When someone breaks a rule, it catches us off guard...

Ah okay. You aren’t kidding, though , it’s definitely a tough one!

Woo boy just wait till you drive in Florida

Damn dude. Good luck with everything

me too. Still haven’t gotten the deductible back from the last accident, we might never though

I’ve seen some really weird shit, like naturally occuring counterflow traffic, or the one time a cop told me to drive on the sidewalk.
There’s actually an asymetrical road that facinates me because there’s space for three lanes, but only two lanes are marked, so when there’s traffic eastbound, there's two lanes eastbound, when it's westbound, there's two lanes westbound... cops don't control this; there's some big switch at some point and it just happens.

I've driven in Florida.

It seems to be the common denominator across countries. I swear the roads up here are so well marked and the signeage is so readable
(even in the snow) that I wouldn’t understand how people crash.

Having a developed infrastructure doesn't magically make people not stupid.

Well that sucks!

C learly you haven’t, otherwise you woulda been had your answer to your question.

Thankfully there’s almost 0 chance of getting totaled this time

Clearly you haven’t driven in Mexico City, otherwise you’d understand why I pose the question.

But are stupid people supposed to have driving licenses?
![]() 03/09/2019 at 21:33 |

poop...
people have been driving like sh!t this week.... had a guy in an Accord coupe try to change lanes into a silver Audi right in front of me on Friday - he WAY over corrected and ended up completely sideways - 45 degrees - right in front of me. His stability control completely saved his a$$ and me from being showered with debris....

Based on where I live, they seem to pass out licenses like party favors.

I had to call in an accident at 1:30 am Friday on my way home from Texas. Someone was completely sideways, front end in a wire guardrail, back end halfway blocking a lane in a 65mph construction zone on the interstate. Huge set of skid marks going into it but I couldn’t guess what happened. Thankfully not a lot of traffic but no shoulders and the angle of his car made it really hard to see.

I mean, at least they take a course or smt. Here you literally pay 35 dollars and they print it
![]() 03/09/2019 at 21:48 |

Eh, can't be bothered to. Mind you I am 16 and haven't been out of the country and have no way to otherwise I would gladly accept your challenge
![]() 03/09/2019 at 21:51 |

Construction zones and 65mph limits only really mix in Texas... don’t they
![]() 03/09/2019 at 22:06 |

That’ll buff out!
No seriously.. it actually will this time.
![]() 03/09/2019 at 22:06 |

That’s strongly debatable. They now allow private businesses to essentially sell them (the private businesses administer the tests) , so it’s likely that many newer drivers here couldn’t even pass their test if they ever needed to.
![]() 03/09/2019 at 22:12 |
|
Sadly it won’t, there’s a sliver of plastic scraped off. Definitely repairable though
![]() 03/09/2019 at 22:20 |
|
That's very bad... specially considering the US has a very heavy reliance on private transportation
![]() 03/09/2019 at 23:52 |

Damn that sucks - and so quick after the last one.
I hope the insurance is easy to deal with. Good luck!

This is the first state I’ve lived in that does this, but it’s deeply frustrating. It makes our traffic that much worse than it otherwise would be...
![]() 03/10/2019 at 00:09 |

I always felt like Mexico had a uniquely human quality to the traffic.
This is the way I felt about traffic in Beijing (granted it’s been over a dozen years since I visited). All sort sorts of rules were widely ignored, but many times the cars moved as you’d expect people in a crowd to move as opposed to ordered approach we theoretically use here.

Yep.

Irrelevant. They have them. While every state has different requirements and tests to get a driver's license , they all tend to be laughably easy. Mine certainly was.
